This is a car study I’ve been working on lately. I tried to get a decent finish on it. Took a while though. Good practice. Click for larger versions.
Well.. this is more in line with what I intended with the preceding post. I wasn’t too happy with the result of that one. I think this is at least a bit better.
Just a few more photo-manipulations and then this will probably be out of my system so that I can go back to good old sketching/drawing.

This was a little test I did to see if I could transform a cartoon into something a bit more real. Mostly using photos and the liquify-function in PS. All the hair curls that stick out are handpainted though.
I have somewhat mixed feelings about the method and result. But, I wanted to at least try to do one of these. The inspiration came from this guys work..

So.. I’m pretty sure I will let this go now. Took this render a bit further than the previous ones. Mostly because I wanted a more polished caricature but also to see what it would take in time and effort.
I’m not sure if I have the patience to just do stuff as finished as this one.. I guess time will tell. Sometimes quicker stuff, more sketchy, can have loads of character and beauty.

Sat down with the caricature for a bit. Trying to render it a bit more careful now. Takes longer than I anticipated. Haven’t even started refining the hair yet. Getting closer though.
Minor update but with significant (I hope) changes. Mostly worked on the eye and mouth area. Still not there but it’s coming along. Will soon move on and polish all areas and try to finish this one off.
Started another caricature. Although I don’t exaggerate my caricatures that much yet I still think they can be called caricatures. Started with a fast, pretty sloppy sketch, corrected some stuff and am currently in the middle of coloring it. Oh, and I will also try and tighten up the likeness a bit more.
So.. I consider this one finished now.
Onto new projects!

A new progress shot of the latest caricature. I probably finish it in my next drawing session.

Well.. my first caricature got finished the other day, and I also started a new one. The new one is in the early stages and pretty full of errors as of now but It might be fun to see the different stages of completion.

A little update! Some hand studies from Bridgman and also a caricature.
I really dig caricature but have never completed a single one until now! I also started dabbling with color theory at the same time, which made the process a bit lengthy. Not to speak about the intricacies of human skin. But now it’s done, and it feels like I learned some stuff in the process.

Long time..
Well, I finally got myself to upload some more stuff to the blog. Will try to be a bit more active.
Most of the stuff in this post (and lots more Bridgman studies and other things) can be found at my Concept Art sketchbook.
Not much to say really. First a few examples of the Bridgman studies. My reason for doing them was to get a better conceptual feeling for the body and it’s planes. I didn’t end up with exactly that.. Because of me lacking regular drawing practice the areas that improved first was just general drawing skills. Line, proportion, some confidence etc. So most of my thinking was focused on that. And now, some months later I’m slowly starting to think about the conceptual stuff again.

A few mouths from reference. Pencil.

A bunch of heads, first from profile and then front view. I did practice drawing the skull from the side and front view as well, and started these faces as skulls. Then I drew lines over the skulls where natural borders of the face occur. After that, shading in PS. More images in the sketchbook mentioned above.

Perspective practice. Really need to get a better grip on perspective, so practicing that on and off. Bought a book on the subject called Vanishing Point: Perspective for Comics from the ground up by Jason Cheeseman-Meyer. I find this book vey good. Easy to follow but deep enough to keep you busy for a while!

Car. Sketched in pencil and colored in PS.

That’s all for this time!
Another house made with Blender/Indigo. Some post in Photoshop.
This time I went for a similar image as the sketch below the render. Just a bit more realistic. The sketch is from a company called LB-Hus which sells houses and I wanted to see if I could do a decent representation of the house in question.
The foliage was made mostly with the help of a free application called ngPlant. It’s an open source plant modeling package. I find it very intuitive and simple to use. Being free doesn’t hurt either. Although the foliage I did wouldn’t pass for real I see quite some potential in the software. Need to experiment a bit more though.

I wanted to try and do some glass bottles with liquid in them, so I made up some designs for bathing soap bottles. Here are some test-renders for the bottles themselves and also the tags I will attach to each of them later. The theme for this “collection” is the four CMYK-colours.
I also did a test-render with the twine, only bump-mapped, to see if the illusion was good enough.
